You are in the Wagaa Theoretical Library — the complete collection of articles to learn foil sailing on the WASZP, before you even set foot in the water.

Learn foil sailing: from theory to flight

Flying on water is not improvised — but you can learn. The difference between those who progress fast and those who struggle is not talent: it is the understanding of what is happening underfoot. This library was born to give you that understanding, lesson after lesson, even before getting on a WASZP.

Each article is written by the Wagaa instructors of Campione del Garda: simple language, precise concepts, zero useless theory. You can read them in the order indicated or jump directly to the topic you are interested in.

The complete route: 6 lessons

🟢

Lesson 1 · Beginner

How a foil works: components and physics of the WASZP

Bearing, resistance, wand, ride height: the four control elements of the WASZP explained from the beginning. The mandatory starting point for anyone approaching foil sailing.

⏱ ~7 minutes of reading · No experience required

🟡

Lesson 2 · Basic

Apparent wind and straightening moment

Because on the WASZP in flight skidding over the upper is correct — and skidding downwind is dangerous. The concept that overturns everything you know about traditional sailing.

⏱ ~8 minutes of reading · Recommended after Lesson 1

🟠

Lesson 3 · Intermediate

Take-off, sustained flight and safety

The three factors of take-off, the theory of sustained flight, how to land in a controlled way and everything you need to know about safety before going out into the water.

⏱ ~10 minutes of reading · Recommended after Lessons 1 and 2

🟠

Lesson 4 · Intermediate

Sailing in the bull and in the stern in flight

How to raise the wind in flight, how to manage the stern without falling over, the feathering in burst and the trim of the bow on every gait.

⏱ ~9 minutes of reading · Recommended after Lesson 3

🔴

Lesson 5 · Advanced

Gybe and tack in flight: foiling maneuver theory

The complete sequence of gybe foiling and tack foiling: entry, curve, sail passage, exit. Typical errors and differences between the two most difficult WASZP maneuvers.

⏱ ~10 minutes of reading · Recommended after Lesson 4

🔴

Lesson 6 · Advanced

Fault analysis: diagnose and correct WASZP problems

The boat doesn't take off? Jump out of the water? Bow always high or low? The complete diagnostic table to understand the cause of each problem and how to fix it — on land and in the water.

⏱ ~8 minutes of reading · Recommended after all previous lessons

Who needs this bookcase?

These articles are designed for three types of readers:

  • Who is preparing for a Wagaa course — reading the lessons before coming to Campione del Garda greatly accelerates learning in the water. Instructors will be able to skip the theory and focus directly on practice.
  • Who has already done some sessions and wants to understand better — if something happens in the water that you can't explain to yourself, the answer is probably here.
  • Who is curious about foil sailing and wants to understand what it is about before deciding whether to try it.
